Lexar XQD Memory Cards to be Compatible with Nikon D4 and Future XQD-based Camera Models

Fremont, CA, 11 July, 2012 – Lexar, a leading global brand of flash memory products, today announced its support of the XQD memory card specification for compatibility with Nikon D4 and future XQD-based camera models. Expected to be available in the third quarter of 2012, Lexar® XQD memory cards will offer high-speed performance in a range of capacities to effectively capture and store high-quality images, 1080p full high-definition (HD) video, and 3D video content.

“By collaborating with Lexar, we’re reinforcing the fact that the XQD specification represents one of the futures of high-performance memory cards,” said Nobuaki Sasagaki, General Manager of marketing department, Imaging Company, Nikon Corporation. “Our cooperation efforts demonstrate the vision shared by Nikon and Lexar to continue advancing the photography and imaging market with innovative technology and extremely high performance.”

“We are committed to offering innovative and industry-leading photography solutions, which is why we’re working with Nikon to offer and co-market XQD memory cards. We view the XQD standard as one of the most logical ways to increase interface speed beyond that of existing CompactFlash technology with the capability of offering performance up to 5Gb per second, in time,” said Wes Brewer, vice president of products and technology, Lexar. “This collaboration provides assured compatibility with Lexar XQD memory cards and Nikon D4 and makes this technology available to the entire photo industry.”

XQD memory cards are based on the PCI Express® specification, which offers 2.5Gb per second performance today with plans for 5Gb per second performance in the future.

ILFORD expands pro-level GALERIE Prestige and newly-defined Premium lines with introduction of archival quality photo papers

ILFORD expands pro-level GALERIE Prestige and newly-defined Premium lines with introduction of archival quality photo papers

To complement its new professional and consumer product categories and the addition of new products to each, ILFORD aims to reignite the photographer’s connection to the lost art of print making

Avon, CT & Marly, Switzerland – June 21, 2012 – ILFORD (http://www.ilford.com), a leading developer and manufacturer of professional quality media for both inkjet printing and color photographic processes, announced today that it is expanding on its recent rebranding efforts by adding an enthusiast-pointed ILFORD Premium (4½ star) product category to live alongside its recently announced professional-grade ILFORD Prestige (5 star) range. With new archival quality papers added to each category, ILFORD is expanding its lineup with some award-winning photo papers that will allow photographers to recreate the excitement of the darkroom experience.

“At ILFORD we were among the first brands in the photographic industry to embrace the switch to digital. Through our in-house research and development team, we’ve played a major role in driving innovation in the inkjet media market, and with this new effort we are looking to spread the virtues of inkjet printing to a new generation of photographers as well as reconnect with darkroom enthusiasts who have resisted making the transition,” said Jane Dixon, Director of Global Marketing for ILFORD Imaging. “Our new product categories will make purchasing decisions easier for consumers, and our new online experience will help all generations of photographers reconnect with printing and once again take full control over the end to end process.”

New GALERIE Prestige (5 star) Media

Continuing in this tradition, ILFORD is introducing GALERIE Prestige Smooth Gloss 310 gsm and Smooth Pearl 310 gsm to its professional GALERIE Prestige (5 star) lineup, both of which were created to provide the look and feel of a traditional print but with the consumer accessibility that only inkjet photo media can offer. Recognized with a 2012 TIPA Award (Technical Image Press Association) as the Best Fine Art Inkjet Papers of the year, the new heavy-weight 310 gsm papers are fully compatible with all professional inkjet printers and are produced using the same technology that has earned ILFORD high print permanence ratings in independent industry tests. These new papers replace the company’s best-selling 290 gsm Pearl and Gloss papers and with their new robust, professional feel lend weight to any image printed on them.

Introducing GALERIE Premium (4½ star)

While ILFORD will continue to bring its top-of-the-line offerings directly to the professional photographer, the company also recognizes that enthusiasts and students alike, demand the same high-quality print results of their professional brethren. With its new and expanding ILFORD GALERIE Premium (4½ star) lineup, the company now has a dedicated product range specially targeted to this audience of passionate photographers. This new range includes several legacy offerings along with  the newly introduced GALERIE Premium Gloss 270 gsm and Lustre 270 gsm. Both products are intended for photographers seeking superior inkjet media for home and studio printing projects and ensure accurate reproductive qualities, extended longevity and a robust surface for durable print and feel.

Location over view of Chelsea Hotel roof top

by JamesNYC27. May 2012 08:44

Chelsea Hotel NYC - Location over view of Chelsea Hotel roof top.

The Chelsea Hotels long history of being the playground and home to the artists of the past and those to be determined in the future are now long gone.

The hotel has changed hands yet again and is currently being completely renovated.

The art and images that had previously adorned the hotels enterance are gone.

The footage of the roof top in the coming months will no longer be valid as the development company has plans to strip all of the existing 'Character' of the roof in order to bring in a more corporate presence on 23rd street.

If anyone has any desire to shoot at this location you had better do it soon; before the remaining elements of this historic Hotel are stripped and sold off.

David Harry Stewart shoots David Haselhoff

by JamesNYC25. May 2012 06:11

We recently did a campaign for Cumberland Farms, featuring the one and only HOFF. So what is the deal with him? Nice guy, super professional, and funny. I don't think I ever watched Baywatch, and Nightrider is ancient history, so although I have heard stories of YouTube escapades, I really had no background in Hoff-etics. In the entertainment biz, the way to stay sane is to be able to separate out the persona from who you really are. When those two things get confused bad stuff starts happening. David seems pretty sane to me. He is able to turn on and of the Hoff persona at will. He closes his eyes for second then out comes this cartoon version of himself. Its magnificent to watch.

Hoff loves to help out. Do you want me to Tweet this, I have a lot of followers (500,000). Would you like to see the inside of my trailer, its pretty fun. Check out those whales, we used to see them all the time during Bay Watch. Fun, right?

He is one of those guys who likes to collaborate. He wants to know what we need, and he works very hard shot after shot to hit the mark. So, to everyone out there who wants some lurid slanderous story about Mr Haselhoff, there is not much to tell. I wish all the celebs I have worked with were as cool as he was. Thanks Hoff for a very pleasant day.

I am going to wait until the the main ads break then I post the final Hoff shots.

Check out the full story on Davids site; as well as more images.

Strobe and daylight mix lighting setup 5 Beekman St. NYC.

by JamesNYC14. May 2012 05:59

Here is a lighting setup we used on the roof of 5 Beekman St. for 1 of 40 we did on Saturday.

Strobe was around 1 stop over ambient to give that dark background look. This effect is best done using a camera with a leaf shutter but can be achieved with any DSLR with a flash sync of 1/200 sec. or better. A Pola filter will enhance this effect.
