Hello Photographers, Photo Assistants & Digital Techs.

As our industry continues to pick itself up after a hideous 24 months of little to no work thanks to a crap economy; I too am now inundated with photo production work as well as our existing projects for the web sites.
Most notably is the impending completion of our new and completely overhauled database system.

This new Database will be expanded to allow listings for every member of the commercial photo industry as well as offer some features similar to those found on social networking sites, features currently not offered anywhere else that I am aware of; and 1 or 2 features that other industry related sites currently charge you for.

I currently have a dozen people testing it and abusing it thoroughly and expect to launch it in the next 10 days.

Next week is the PhotoPlus Expo at the Jacob Javitz center here in NYC. It's the one time every year I get to see some of my friends now spread out across the country and many of you that I have met over the years either through workshops or through the site or our networking events. So hopefully we'll have a chance to meet again.

I would also like to welcome or new sponsor Leica Camera.
In the coming weeks and months we will be presenting a number of events that will be hosted in part by Leica and maybe even a few surprises.

Meet The Leica S-System

Try The New S Lenses At The Leica Studio in New York City.
Leica Camera is pleased to feature the S-System at Production Central Daylight Studio in New York City on October 28 and 29, 2010 as part of its activities for Photo Plus East 2010.  Try the Leica S-System, a class of its own from capture to output during Leica’s open shoot sessions and lectures from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on both days.

Leica Camera AG Product Managers and Product Specialists will be available to assist and answer questions.  Renowned photographers, Rinze Van Brug and Chiun-Kai Shih will also be on hand on October 28 and 29 respectively to discuss their work.

Scott Geffert of CDI will give a short presentation titled “The Leica S2 and International Standards - The latest methods to increase productivity and image quality”  followed by a sneak peek into the future of photographic lighting by CDI Technology.

Each day, Jon Slesinger from Fotocare will have a printing demonstration from 4:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.

Leica invites all photographers to take this opportunity to experience and evaluate the Leica S-System.

Digital Tech Appreciation Day

Monday, November 8, 2010

You're invited!

Leica Camera is pleased to invite you to participate in Digital Tech Appreciation Day on Monday, November 8, 2010. This day is to honor and show appreciation to all of the digital techs in the field of photography. Leica Camera just wants to say "Thanks" for all you do! Please join us on the S-System page on Facebook for a day of appreciation: http://www.facebook.com/S.System. Don't miss the behind-the-scenes stories, shout-outs and extras that are in store. Also, Leica Camera will announce the digital tech winner of a three day rental of the S-System free of charge.

Are you the best digital tech or know who is?

To kick off all of the appreciation we're opening up nominations for who is the best digital tech: is it you or someone you know? Out of the nominations, Leica Camera will award a three day rental of the S-System free of charge to the digital tech that stands out the most.

Submissions will be held starting Wednesday, October 20 - Friday, November 5. The winner will be announced on Monday, November 8 on the S-System page on Facebook as part of Digital Tech Appreciation Day. To nominate you or someone you know now, please visit http://www.facebook.com/S.System.

Check out our full length interview with lifestyle and advertising photographer David Harry Stewart. And for those of us with short attention spans all of our videos and interviews are also available in short form.

I look forward to seeing you all at the PhotoPlus Expo next week and on our new site.
